An ever expanding archive celebrating the 1960's and 1970's Liverpool based merseybeat group, "The Ferrymen"
Alan
Millington - Lead Guitar and VocalsAlan joined the band in 1965 after placing an advert in the window of Hessy's music shop on Stanley Street Liverpool. Alan took on lead vocals and lead guitar with his prized Chet Atkins Gretch, (as pictured above), which became something of a trademark for him. The guitar was subsequently hired by Echo and the Bunnymen for several of their recording sessions. After the demise of The Ferrymen, Alan continued his passion for music by mastering the keyboards, recording some experimental vocals with Marc Crellin (son of Keith) Mark Pythian, (sound engineer at Amozon Studios behind Pete Burns You Spin Me Round), and continues to compose and record to this day. After a long career with Plessey in Huyton, Alan entered a sucessful spell as a self employed Design Engineer working with several engineering firms around the North West. It was through The Ferrymen that Alan met Freda, Keiths wifes' sister who he eventually married making the band something of a family affair! He recently retired to spend more time with his four grandchildren and lives with wife Freda in Wigan.
Keith
Crellin - Bass guitar and vocalsKeith was the founder member of the Pegasus 4 and provided the bass line in all the subsequent incarantions leading up to The Ferrymen. A well known charachter in Liverpool from his carpet supplies and re-upholstery business "Tithebarn Furnishings", Keith later moved into band management, and had a long connection with Liverpools Amazon Studios for whom he provided accomodation for visiting bands, (amongst them Wet Wet Wet, The Water Boys, Trevor Morace and Pete Oxendale). As his playing career diminished, Keith develped an interest in yachting, culminating in him taking part in the Whitbread Round the world Race on "Norsk Data GB". He and his first wife Judith built two of their own yachts, and sailed one of them, Mr ORion, to sunnier climes where they ran a yacht charter firm for several years. After the untimely passing of Judith, Keith eventually re-married Kay and moved to Leeds where he continues with his carpet supplies business
Lenny
Holden - DrumsLen Holden son of Councillor Leonard
Holden mayor of Liverpool. Len joined the Pegsus 4 very early on in the
bands formation, but had sold his drum kit to buy a Lambretta Scooter,
and therefore had a problem. That was solved by Greg Geogeson's Dad who
had been a big band drummer lending Len some kit. The bass
drum was so big Len could hardly be seen over the top!
Len worked for British rail in Lime Street and later the DHSS. He
married Sheila in the late 60's and has two daughters. Last heard of Lenny was living in Formby, but if you are reading this Lenny - get in touch!
